Madison was found by a Good Samaritan at a rest stop near I-10 with a tranquilizer dart embedded between her shoulder blades. With the cooperation of Alachua County Animal Services, a team of caring experts from UF including clinicians from the Shelter Animal Medicine, Emergency & Critical Care, Zoological Medicine, and Surgery departments worked to remove the dart and start Madison on her road to recovery. She is currently available for adoption through Helping Hands Rescue.

You can help offset the cost of Madion’s care by making a tax-deductible donation to the HAARTS Program today!

Scared, alone and in excruciating pain, Bella awaited an uncertain fate. That’s when the staff at Puppy Hill Farm Animal Rescue recognized Bella as one of their own. Bella was released from the shelter and enrolled in the HAARTS Program to take care of her medical needs. After nearly six hours of intricate surgery performed by the dedicated clinicians in the Soft Tissue Surgery service at UF, Bella was on the road to recovery. Although she will remain hearing-impaired, she is now pain-free and is enjoying her new lease on life!

Help play a role in Bella’s happy ending by making a tax-deductible donation to the HAARTS program today!

When his owner had to go into a nursing home, the 20-year old Mr. Rusty found himself in the shelter with severe ocular disease including glaucoma and corneal ulceration.

After examination by the Ophthalmology service at UF, it was decided that the best way to keep Rusty happy and pain-free was to remove his right eye. The HAARTS program was happy to sponsor Rusty’s procedure and give him a new lease on life!

Charley Bob is a young adult boxer mix that came into the shelter at Alachua County Animal Services with a fractured hip and pelvis after being hit by a car. The shelter’s medical staff worked hard to keep Charley Bob comfortable, but they just couldn’t afford the surgery to fix his broken bones. That’s when the HAARTS program and teams of specialists from the Small Animal Surgery and Rehabilitation & Fitness services stepped in to help.

Upon hearing of Charley Bob’s story, Pit Sisters of Jacksonville, FL immediately called upon their network of volunteers to transport Charley Bob to a foster home to continue his road to recovery. Charley Bob is using his injured leg more and more each day and looks forward to finding his new home.

Make a tax-deductible donation to the HAARTS program today to be a part of the Charley Bob recovery effort!

Billy Donovan, longtime head coach of the UF men’s basketball team, has led his players to two national championships and three appearances in the title game. He and his wife, Christine, have also recently led two family dogs on leashes through hospital hallways for orthopedic surgery.
