This is a one year training program in small animal emergency and critical care medicine that provides exposure to a large number of cases within a fully-staffed emergency service and intensive care unit.
The training occurs at our main referral hospital at University of Florida and our satellite emergency practice in Ocala, Florida. Our satellite clinic provides a practice style experience including first opinion soft tissue surgery. In addition, training is provided through elective rotations in areas of interest to the applicant. ECC interns have primary case responsibility and are involved in teaching of our veterinary students under the supervision of boarded faculty members. This program also maintains a strong emphasis on original research to advance the field of veterinary critical care. Interns are required to prepare one first author manuscript, and will present Grand Rounds once during their internship.
